Overall experience first semester at CBU SON

As I stepped into class for my first semester of nursing school, I noticed that everyone in class was very quiet and shy. Throughout the term, I was fortunate to meet many of my classmates and became friends with them. I have realized that over time, we have all grown closer and started to get along with each other. Some have even started study groups and are always helping each other.

When I first started this semester I was unsure about the professors. I had no idea if the professors were mean, strict, nice, comforting, or difficult to get along with but fortunately they were amazing. This is also my first term here at CBU, and I am blessed with the wonderful professors that were given to me. All of my nursing professors were helpful, kind, caring, reasonable, and comforting. Whenever there is a situation with assignments, the professors would always email everyone as soon as possible. The professors always replied to our emails fairly quickly. Mostly importantly, the professors are really flexible as long as we kept in contact with each other.

It is now the end of the term and everyone is stressing over finals. The school is constantly filling our inboxes with evaluations and we just cannot wait to go on break. I am hoping that I get the chance to see the same professors throughout the rest of my nursing courses. My nursing professors have all shown that really cared and that makes an impact on my life. This is the first time I have ever experienced this from professors and I really appreciated it. I truly enjoyed this term and hope to have my professors again in the future. Happy Holidays everyone!!

Staying focused during break

Thanksgiving Break is soon approaching and I know that all the students cannot wait to take a break! Plenty of us are most likely stressed out from intense studying during the semester and cannot wait to take a breather. This Thanksgiving Break is going to help us relax, and gives us the opportunity to sleep in and not have class for a week! Sweet!

This break will also give us a chance to get together with our family and have Thanksgiving dinner. It also gives us the chance to eat and eat to our heart’s content. Many of us will most likely slip into a food coma this break thanks to tryptophan! We should also remember to be thankful for all the blessings that God had given us.

Last but not least after the break is over, it is back to the books. Being a nursing student we always want to stay on top of our work so we have to stay focused even during our break. During our break we have to make sure that we finish everything that is due or at least be prepared for what is coming up ahead. We all know what happens when we fall behind so we cannot forget to constantly check our emails and syllabus. I feel that as long as we stay on top of our work we will all have a fantastic break. Happy Thanksgiving everybody!!

Some Humor

Where would we all be without a little bit of humor in our lives and how would we all act? I personally think we would be stressed out and grumpy. All of the stress that builds up inside one’s body can be led out through laughter, which is a very effective relaxation technique. The heavy workload due to nursing school brings us a lot of stress, which is why we all need some humor. Laughter provides several benefits such as: relaxing the whole body, boosting the immune system, triggering the release of endorphins, and even protecting the heart (Smith, 2012)! Laughter also brings people together and last but not least it does not cost a dime. Here is a little picture that made me laugh ha-ha.

Procrastination and Time Management!

Staying on top of things and getting things done as soon as possible has never been easy, especially for college students. I am not saying this applies to everyone, but you know who you are those that study or do homework at the very last minute. A good example is studying the night before for an exam or even studying on the morning of! This is all due to Procrastination and poor time management. I am pretty sure we have all done it at one point in our lives and it is not cool. I think that procrastination makes people lazy when instead we could be so productive.  I also think that procrastination is due to poor time management. If we do not set a plan for whatever time that we need to get things done, then we will eventually procrastinate. I realize that student handbook really helps with organization and effective time management. I try to set times when I need to get things done (which are way before they are due) and I accomplish it. I use to put things off and say to myself that “Oh, I’ll get it done later”, but over time I realize that procrastination needs to be defeated. Now I follow this motto “If it comes up in your mind, get it done”, and that helped me a significantly conquer procrastination. I now have a planner, I have set times and goals when I want to get a certain task finished so I no longer procrastinate. I know that as a nursing student, we do not want to procrastinate it is always better to get things done and out of the way. I truly believe that if we have set goals and effective time management we can beat procrastination and be more productive.
